Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to restore harmony and balance to the mind, body, spirit, heart and home.

Essential oils are volatile fragrant liquid substances obtained from various parts of different plant matter for their healing and therapeutic value. But I really don't think we are supposed to say healing so how about transforming properties?

Kara raised her hand during one of my workshops. She is an analytical person with a career in accounting, so of course, she is very calculating.

With a puzzled look on her face she asked,
"Why are the oils called essential?"

I thought what an interesting and exciting question.

There are a few differing opinions about the answer, but this allows me to emote my passion for the spiritual and physical answer I prefer. My personal experiences in working with essential oils are that they truly are the vibrant part of the plant that promotes healing.

They are the part of the plant that is essential to our survival.

Essential Oils are sometimes referred to as essences or the life force of the plant. It is a reference to the therapeutic chemical characters of the plant that promote healing. Life force is also known as chi energy in martial arts. It is the energy that connects all beings on planet Earth, the universe and the spiritual plane.

Essential oils can transform our moods and the way we view our life. They release odoriferous or aromatic molecules that have the power to heal; or transform.  Their energies are soothing, refreshing, inspiring and they connect us all in this world full of scents.
