Essential Oil Quality Part 1 or
 "How To Choose?"

Hmmm. Who do I buy quality essential oils from?

It can be confusing and frustrating to search through many brands of oils with different prices all claiming to be pure. Without the knowledge to arm yourself how do you know who  to trust? There are many determining factors that contribute to the cost of an essential oil. And even a few tips to spot adulterated or even synthetic oils.

There are a lot more companies out there selling oils than there was when I started working as an AMCET in 1994.That stands for Armstrong McCall Core Education Team. I spent over 6 years teaching & introducing aromatherapy to Day Spas, Salons and another 25 years  and counting teaching to my own clients.

When we, "Arum Spa System" AMCETs, first started working at the International Spa Esthetics and Cosmetics show there was only about 3 companies on the showroom floor selling and exhibiting aromatherapy products.

There are so many companies out there now..geeze!

Not much has changed as far as the "Our oils are better than yours" theme song. Essential oil quality is effected by so many influences that even some of the businesses selling the oils are unaware of. It is important to know your supplier and for the customer to trust your retailer.

Sadly there continues to be the synthetics and adulterated oils dressed up and parading around as "Pure" oils only cheaper.

The phrases

  • Pure,
  • High Quality
  • Therapeutic Grade and even
  • Organic
  • Certified Organic
  • 100% Pure

have all become marketing buzz words. The vocabulary was even a struggle when I first began teaching in 1994.

The problem and solution now is that claims by legitimate companies as well as fraudulent companies  all have the power of social media. The voice of their businesses carry fast  through timeline after timeline .They are much easier to see and just as easy to ignore. So the small and large legitimate  companies  providing fair prices and quality oils may still be getting lost in the ever increasing collection of confusion.

In this series we will be going over the determining factors in pricing essential oils and their quality. I will also give you a few tips for recognizing the signs of quality and fraudulent oils.

I will be going over topics that effect essential oil qualities such as:

  • Environment, weather conditions
  • Sustainable Farming
  • Supply and Demand
  • Business & Marketing
  • Methods of Extraction
  • Transportation and Storing
