No time to read the blog? No Problem! it's recorded here for you to listen to while you multi-task.

5 Spiritual Uses of the Lavender Plant. The versatility of Lavender is present in its spiritual uses just as it is in the numerous physical uses. Its effects are powerfully gentle.

I am never able to resist reaching out to  gently rub the velvet leaves of a lavender plant. Inhaling  as the plant releases a mystical fragrance. Its gentle compassion embraces and surrounds me, almost instantly soothing my soul.

Anyone that is walking with me is also subject to my insistent habit of plant  touch and smell. I like everyone to share a little "peace" of lavender.

The majestic shades of color from purple to white to silvery blue, captures the heart center and can hold us in a state of magical fascination. Rolling lavender fields have inspired many creative endeavors in all forms of the arts. Beautiful poems have been written. Gorgeous photographs have been taken. Amazing paintings have been created.

I took the photo above while visiting a lavender festival in North Carolina. I was so mesmerized with the fragrance in the field and the perfect buds on the stems that I didn't realize I actually took a decent photo. (sigh)

The lavender fields in Europe left such an impression on my friend Rhonda that she made a series of note cards from her watercolors.

Steffanie, my photographer ( and lovely daughter), bought a bundle of lavender at a farmer's market in LA and felt compelled to set up a photo session with her aromatic treasure. They were so beautiful that she did multiple product shoots of just lavender when we had our studio in Biloxi.

If you have a bottle of Lavender ( Twilight brand , of course) then just take a moment to inhale and allow this plant to work its magic on you!

1. Smudging

If you prefer smudging your home in order to clear and refresh its energy, you may enjoy adding a few dried lavender twigs to your sage bundle. I sometimes stock the pre-made bundles for your convenience.

If you grow your own lavender plants or purchase bundles it is easy to blend them in with the sage bundles you have. Simply pull a few of the sage twigs from your bundle and insert the Lavender twigs. Hopefully they are not packed too tight, or you will just have to re-tie your bundles.

Or you can use Lavender hydrosol as an energy balancing mist throughout your home and office.  Another option is to blend your own mixture of Lavender oil, distilled water, salt and coconut oil. We call this liquid smudging.

Whichever method you choose it is customary to start at the entrance to your home. State your intention whether it is to clear stale, stagnant energy or attract positive joyful energy. Traditionally the cycles of the moon can be used to increase your intention. Go into every room and happily smudge with your intentions.

2. Meditation & Prayer

For centuries fragrance has been used to carry your dreams, wishes and prayers to the heavens. Some plants and resins were and still are considered sacred.

To calm your mind and maintain focus on your breath during meditation you can use a form of passive or active diffusion allowing you to inhale the natural chemical make up of lavender essential oil.

When inhaled the lavender travels through the olfactory system and is carried  to the limbic portion of your brain. This is the place where the magical relaxing and balancing benefits of lavender encourages you to feel more peaceful and relaxed.

Inhale your lavender oil straight out of the bottle or use a diffuser

Set your timer for however long you want to meditate or pray

Sit in a relaxed position where you will not be disturbed.

Now just breathe...Without judgment...focus on the sound and movement of your own breath...If you become distracted return your focus to your breath.  Close your eyes.

When the time goes off gently bring yourself back into the room and feel this peaceful calm all through your day.

3. Now

Staying in the present moment can be difficult with a lengthy to-do-list running through our minds. The wanderings of the mind also includes memories and events from our past that just keep floating into our heads like popups on a favorite website. And what about those worries that haven't even happened yet! Yep, the future.

Too much mind noise.

Take this action step. It has repeatedly proven its value for me. Handwrite 10 things you are grateful for each day every day. This helps you focus on the NOW.

To increase the effect just add your sense of taste to your practice by having a cup of lavender tea or lavender lemonade while you write. Lavender is one of the essential oils and herbs that help you feel grateful.

4. Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is believed to be a spinning vortex of energy located over the sternum. This chakra is associated with love. To keep it in balance requires self-nurturing and care  as well as the love of others.

Lavender helps promote compassion and it stabilizes emotions of the heart. Not only being in the present moment but being aware of your surroundings and circumstances of the moment lets you see your connection to all of the beauty you are a connected to.

Use diluted lavender oil for anointing your heart chakra during meditation to increase self-awareness.

5. Intuition

Consistent emotional balance and your overall health can increase your awareness of your intuitive abilities. The lavender plant is known for its balancing effects on the emotions as well on the physical body.

Lavender essential oil is the most concentrated form of the lavender plant. It is believed to be approximately 100x stronger than the herb. There is a general belief that we can raise  our personal frequencies by using high quality organic products. Research by Tanio Technology has found that essential oils vibrate between 52-320 MHZ and that the human brain vibrates at 72-90 MHZ.

Practices that help increase our personal frequencies help us to translate and recognize  messages that we  receive from our Guides, Angels, Holy Spirit and Ancestral Energies, to name a few. Implementing techniques and therapies such as meditation, prayer, yoga, Chi Kung while using a high quality Lavender oil improves our overall well being. Highly sensitive or empathic persons will be calmed and balanced with this elegant plant matter.

This is one of the first books I bought when I was going through Aromatherapy certification in 1996. It is now worn and well used. You may want to add this to your library. The book has quite a bit of information on the history, cultivation, distillation, and many home uses and formulas.

It was written by Maggie Tisserand & Monika Jeneman.

I no longer carry books for online purchase but this is available at Amazon.

I hope enjoy owning it as much as I.

Lotsa Love,

~ Patrina ~
