 Autumn Equinox -Mabon

The magic of the Autumn Equinox also known as Mabon
Mabon/Autumn Equinox  Wed September 22, 2021

As summer is fading, we welcome the balanced energy of  Mabon, the Autumn Equinox. This is one of the two equinoxes where night and day are of equal length.  Mabon gently guides us into the shadow side of the upcoming seasons in the Northern hemisphere.

The excitement of fall begins to ease into our hearts. Expectantly we wait for the brilliant Second Harvest  to envelop us in nature's magic. Our bodies and spirit await to be nourished with the  fruits, vegetables, and flowers in all their fall sensations. The harvest times were a critical time for our ancestors survival. Deep within our cellular memories we may feel the importance of preparing for survival as the dormant season awaits us.

The second harvest marks the onset of giving thanks. Homes and businesses begin to adorn their establishments with garlands of pine cones, apples, corn, ornamental gourds, wheat stalks and the happy fall mums that are seen almost everywhere. From fireplace mantles to front porches the enthusiasm begins to build as we honor this colorful season.

The spirit of the Second Harvest extends beyond crops; it inspires the actions of nurturing yourself.  Complete this cycle with a glance back at all of your accomplishments stemming from the Spring Equinox. Celebrate your goals that have come to fruition. With respect, it is also time to release the incomplete intentions that you set for summer. Gently release them without self-judgment.

A beautiful method  to honor your life is by meditating in a space of gratitude. Your meditation practice may be five minutes of stillness or thirty or more.  Begin or continue a gratitude journal to express the many things in your life you appreciate. Include the life experiences you have had since you set your intentions this past Spring.

It is natural this time of year to go within to find strength for this last season of growth. There is one more harvest. Now you can begin to travel to the root of your being as you invite the  darkness of winter to become your friend.

You may notice the many pumpkin spice flavors enhancing every type of food or drink.  Seek comfort in the preparation of nourishing, warming foods of the season.

Celebrate Autumn Equinox with foods & drinks of the season!

Supporting your local produce growers is an excellent way to reconnect with the nature of the season. The earthy and root foods of the second harvest help you align with implementing your basic instincts of survival. 2020 and 2021 have forced us to communicate with each other with very little to no personal or physical contact. Eating and being mindful of  seasonal foods will help you to bring the celebrations of your ancestral past into your presence.

  • Apples guard against negativity
  • Pomegranates Symbolizes your inner Goddess
  • Pumpkins
  • Corn
  • Grains
  • Grapes
  • Squash
  • Cider
  • Wine
  • Seeds & Nuts

Herbs, Spices & Oils Of Autumn

As we say farewell and thank summer for all of our adventures, we ease into Autumn. Each season is associated with aromas that enchant our senses. The autumn is my favorite with all of the warmth of a cozy blanket on a cooler morning. As the turn of the leaves here in North Carolina delight us with their vibrant change of seasons tones, the spices and second harvest produce bring their own brilliance into our lives.

  • Cinnamon for prosperity
  • Rosemary for remembrance
  • Chamomile for truth and grace
  • Sage for protection
  • Yarrow for releasing anger & fear
  • Cedar for grounding
  • Orange for promoting Joy
